In 2008, leaders from the National Nursing Centers Consortium, the Institute for Nursing Centers and the Nursing Centers-Research Network convened the first meeting of a Nurse-Managed Clinic Quality Task Force, tasked with the goal of establishing voluntary quality standards for nurse-led clinics. The three organizations recognized that establishing uniform quality standards was critical to convey to patients and policymakers the safe and quality care they should expect from nurse-managed health clinics. Designed to apply to all types of nurse-led clinics, including wellness centers, primary care clinics, and independent practices as well as those affiliated with academic institutions.
The Nurse-Managed Health Clinic Quality Standards are the result of this process. The hope is that the Quality Standards will serve as the basis for future certification or credentialing of nurse-managed health clinics.
A special thanks to our committee co-chairs, Kate Fiandt and Nancy Rothman, for leading the development of these Quality Standards.
